CHAPTER ONE - Part 1
Tsuzuki Asato screamed into the night, bolting upright from his slumber. Blankets and sheets were thrown in hurdled heaps on the floor and at his feet. He blinked a few times into the darkness before wrapping his arms around his still trembling body.
Its just another nightmare, he told himself, hoping that his words would form some kind of coherent explanation to reason with his befuddled mind. However, to his disappointment, he realized that words could only achieve so much.
With the memory of the dream still fresh in his mind, he could not stop the rush of hot tears streaming down his already wet cheeks. The intensity of the dream has shaken him to his very core and leaving his emotions scattered to the four corners of Meifu
What’s happening to me ?
Tsuzuki sighed as he rubbed his eyes tiredly. For the past week, his nights were plagued by endless dreams of fire, death and his enemy, the deceased Muraki Kazutaka.
He tried telling himself that having such nightmares were acceptable considering what he had been through in Kyoto, yet, there was a part of him that wondered why in all those dreams, he was seeing the white doctor in a new light.
It was as if he was seeing a different Muraki.
A Muraki with a pure, untainted soul.
The kind of person he would willingly and gladly fall in love with.
I love you…Muraki’s soft words echoed in his mind…I love you, Asato.
Closing his eyes, he let the memory of the dream drifted back into his mind. Shamelessly, he relished on the feel the other man’s warm lips….his gentle hands and his loving presence. All his life he was looking for a place where he belonged, and in his dreams, he somehow knew, perhaps instinctively, that he belonged in the man’s warm embrace.
If only dreams were true…..
Then he remembered the burning fire and was immediately snapped back to reality.
“ This is ridiculous ! What the hell am I thinking ! ” he whispered fiercely, berating himself for even having such thoughts. Glancing at the alarm clock, the Shinigami groaned. There was no way in heaven or hell that he could possibly sleep. Letting out an exhausted sigh, Tsuzuki slowly crawled out of his messy bed.
“ Might as well take a walk…. ”.
Looking through his opened window towards the starlit skies, the Shinigami decided that a long midnight stroll would be a good idea to clear his thoughts and bring it back into perceptive.
Shrugging into his coat, Tsuzuki stepped out of his small, modest apartment and made his way slowly towards his favorite spot amongst the beautiful Meifu gardens; his private scheduled haven. After wondering through the intricate paths amidst the Sakura forest, he finally came to a small clearing, scattered with trees and holding a thick maze of bushes near the centre. There was an old wooden bench there where he would spend hours just sprawled out on it staring at the skies.
Lying down on it like he always did countless of times before, Tsuzuki gazed longingly at the gibbous moon which hung plump and bright high above him. As far as he could remember, he has always loved watching it. There was something in its eerie silvery glow that he found soothing and God knows he needed it at the moment to calm down his unnerving state of mind.
So very pale….
He smiled to himself and let the soothing surroundings lulled him into his much needed rest.
Just as he was about to dozed off, he heard a faint rustling sound from a nearby bush.
“ Who’s there ? ” the Shinigami asked, sitting up almost abruptly. Straining his eyes through the darkness, he tried to decipher what the shadow was. However, after some observation, he decided that it was just the wind.
Suddenly, his keen hearing caught the sound of a muffled groan and his heart missed a beat.
Someone’s out there…
Turning around slowly, he silently walked towards the direction of the sound. From where he stood, he saw a figure slowly disengaged itself from the dark shadows of the Sakura trees.
It was a man, a tall man wearing a blood drenched cloak.
Tsuzuki’s eyes widen in horror as the moonlight hit the man’s face.
Oh my God….
Familiar silver-gray eye held his amethyst ones captive in an intense gaze that he could not break free. As the figure came nearer, the dark-haired Shinigami trembled; acutely conscious of the man’s overpowering presence.
“ I’ve found you…” rasped the man, a faint, tired smile graced his strikingly handsome face.
Tsuzuki braced himself for the other’s attack. Surely the white doctor was here to seek revenge for stabbing him in
“ M..Muraki..? ”
Suddenly, the white doctor’s hands reached out to touch the Shinigami’s cheeks, gently caressing the soft flawless skin. At the touch, Tsuzuki stiffened, more in shock than in fear like he knew he should. There was something different in the man tonight, something that even he as a Shinigami could not decipher.
In his bewilderment, Tsuzuki suddenly realized that his enemy was now only a hair breadth away. He could feel the other’s labored breathing against his skin.
“ I thought I’d never see you again…” whispered the silver haired man just before he passed out straight into Tsuzuki’s arms.
